Do you need to register a firearm in the State of Hawaii?
Visit the Hawaii County Police Department’s Firearm Services web page for complete, accurate and up-to-date information. You should read all of the information on that page to find out exactly what you need.
- Visit a police station near you and obtain a Permit to Acquire, if you haven’t got one already.
- If this is your first time getting a Permit to Acquire, you will need to bring a Cashier’s Check or Money Order (no personal checks or cash) to the police station. Make the check out to Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center for $43.25.
- If applying for a HAND gun permit you will need to bring in either your Hunters Education Card or an Affidavit showing you completed a gun safety course in the State of Hawaii.
- NOTE: If you have a medical marijuana card, and you are applying for a Permit to Acquire, you will be denied. Visit the State of Hawaii Department of Health page for more information.
